Does Westerly Creek offer before- and after-school care?
Yes, the Kaleidoscope Corner program is available at Westerly Creek Elementary and is open from 6 am until 6 pm. Please see the information sheet included in the folder titled "Before and After School Care" or go to the Extended Day page for more details.
How do we enroll our child/ren in Westerly Creek if we are moving to Stapleton, but our home will not be ready before the first day of school?
To formally enroll, families living in Stapleton (or soon to be living in Stapleton) must present a birth certificate, a copy of the child's latest immunization record, and proof of residence. For families that are building homes not yet completed, please bring a copy of the purchase agreement/contract; for families that are renting, please bring a copy of the lease agreement.
How old does my child have to be to start ECE or Kindergarten?
In order to be enrolled in a program for the 2008-2009 academic year, your child must turn three before October 1, 2008 for the ECE age 3 group and turn four before October 1, 2008, for the ECE age 4 group. Children must turn five before October 1, 2008, for Kindergarten.
How can I "choice in" to Westerly Creek?
The DPS Choice program allows students to attend a school other than one in their immediate neighborhood. Students can apply to any DPS school during the Choice enrollment period, which is the entire month of January. Forms are available at all schools and may be returned to any school for central processing. A lottery will be conducted if there are more applicants than space available in a school.
Why are ECE and Full-Day Kindergarten tuition-based?
The state of Colorado does not require children to attend preschool or kindergarten; therefore, these programs are not funded by tax dollars.
How does the school interact with the Odyssey School?
Westerly Creek and Odyssey share the cafeteria, gym and computer lab. At various times throughout the year, the two schools may combine events.
To which high school are we zoned?
Students are currently zoned to George Washington High School. A new high school is planned for the Stapleton neighborhood, currently proposed on a site just north of the NorthField shopping area.
