Mrs. Smith is passionate about teaching drama. She has been teaching drama in Denver Public Schools since 2005. Maureen was honored to receive the "Elementary Drama Teacher of the Year" award from the Alliance of Colorado Theatre in 2008. She has also worked at Lexington Children’s Theatre in Kentucky as their outreach coordinator where she brought theatre programs to rural communities. Maureen starred as the evil stepmother in Lexington Children’s Theatre professional production of CINDERELLA. Mrs. Smith has been acting since she was a child and enjoys character acting and children’s theatre the most. Most recently she has played Glinda the Good Witch in THE WIZARD OF OZ and Grandma in LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD, a variety of characters in THE HISTORY OF AMERIA ABRIDGED, as well as making up theatre on the spot as an improv performer. Maureen enjoys bringing imagination and creativity to the children at Westerly Creek Elementary.
